Just who is Custom Handweaving?

Hi, My name is Nancy and along with my husband of 43 years, Cal, we are Custom Handweaving!  Our Ebay ID is calbeanie02, our etsy seller name is weavespin. We have been in business since 1978 here in Southern California.  Custom Handweaving has no store front but you are welcome to visit us at home by appointment.

We supply weavers, beaders, knitters, spinners, crocheters, felters and all other fiber artists in the Southern California area and now, through the Interent, U.S. and Canada.

I have always been a stitcher and knitter since Girl Scouts. I became interested in Weaving when taking a UCLA extension class and got my first loom as a bet with my DH in 1974. I have been very active over the years in the Southern California Handweaver’s Guild. The Greater Los Angeles Spinners Guild has made me an honorary member for my ongoing support of nearly 30 years.

At Convergence Cincinnati in 1988 I took a beading class from Virginia Blakelock and Carol Pernoud, I’ve been HOOKED ever since.  Now, I take classes whenever and wherever I can. I especially like to make jewelry using Swarovski crystals. I also do French Beaded Flowers, after taking many of Arlene Baker’s classes. In 2004, I even attended Bead and Button. Fantastic! 2007 saw me at Bead Expo in Oakland. Too much fun! 2008, 2009 and 2010 saw me at Beads on the Vine. This year, 2011 you will also see me there.

Congratulations Nancy!

Nancy's work appeared in the "The Big Bang Theory" on October 15, 2007.  Nancy was commissioned by Warner Brother TV Studios to weave an "over the top" poncho for the show. Additionally Nancy worked on the stage set providing a warped loom and then training the actor how to weave.

January/February 2008 Handwoven P. 24 -- Read the article on Nancy's participation in  "The Big Bang Theory"

This is the "Poncho" woven for the Big Band Theory before design changes were made. The hood and side panels which had been commercially woven were added the night before and then removed on set.  The piece was folded on the diagonal to give a "real" poncho look with the front having a point down.

Model deleted for vantity reasons.
